Axemen roll to pair of home-field blowouts in Squamish

The Axes and Oars fell on the road to Capilano

The Axemen Rugby Club defended its home pitch ferociously on Saturday, resulting in a pair of blowout victories.

The Division 2 roster blew out the visiting Meraloma Club by an eye-popping score of 77-0. Earlier in the day, the Division 3 squad rolled to an equally dominant 72-0 victory over the Vancouver Rogues.

Axemen representatives shouted out each of its new caps on social media: Jake Karroum (#257), Kane Strachan (#258), Zachary Jamison (#259), Matt Backhouse (#260),  Michael Chandler (#261) and Tim Ward (#262).

Meanwhile, the Axes and Oars women had a tougher time on the road as they fell 39-5 to Capilano. Nonetheless, the brand-new hybrid team has now scored its first points in BC Rugby Division 2 play as head coach Lauren Arthur aims to create a space for experienced players and newcomers alike.
