Three local hockey players have been named to the Greater Vancouver Canucks team that will compete in the 33rd Annual Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association Midget Scholarship Tournament from Jan. 10 to 16.

Jarrad Wilhelm, Bryce Hurlbert and goaltender Corey Koop will represent Squamish in the tournament, which recognizes the talents of graduating Midget players (17 years old) in both the educational and athletic fields.

Players are chosen based on their play and their ability to maintain a C+ or better grade average in school.

The three local players will open the tournament at Brennan Park Arena against the Greater Vancouver Avalanche on Sunday (Jan. 10) at 4:30 p.m. It will be the only game played locally.

At the end of the tournament, one player from each team will receive a Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association Special Bursary Award worth $500 for best exemplifying excellence and sportsmanship.
