The Heli-Riggen Flyers are thankful for their cushion atop the standings of the Howe Sound Men's Hockey League.

Until Sunday's game, the Flyers were in a slump. With only two points in their last four games, and two really bad losses to the BTR/OP Predators, they needed a win - and they needed it now.

On Sunday night (Feb. 15), they finally turned the tables and won in convincing fashion over the Code Blue Chiefs by a score of 8-2.

"The Flyers were grounded for a while," said Flyers netminder Steve Hadden. "It's nice to get a win again - nice to know we can still play the game."

The Flyers put the game out of reach for the Chiefs with three unanswered goals with 10 minutes remaining in the third. The goals came 33 seconds apart, stunning Chiefs goalie Rob McNutt.

Flyers forward Miles Rosser (#19) was the game MVP, scoring a hat trick as a result of "clicking well" with linemates Danny Sargeant and Travis Moyle.

The first win in five for the Flyers came after two convincing defeats at the hands of the Predators. With back-to-back 9-3 losses to the Preds, the Flyers needed to bounce back into winning form again. Against the Chiefs, they succeeded. They kept up constant pressure in the offensive zone, and used speed and a good forecheck to force turnovers from the Chiefs.

Although they have struggled lately, the Flyers are still atop the standings with 40 points and a solid 15-point lead over the Predators.

In other recent games, The Red Wings knocked off the Flyers on Friday the 13th by a score of 8-5. Red Wings forward Craig Halliday put in an all-star performance netting a hat trick along with 3 assists for a six-point night.

The Predators are currently in second spot in the league standings with 25 points (as of Feb. 16), followed by the Red Wings with 19 points and the Chiefs in last spot with 12.

Upcoming games in the Howe Sound Men's Hockey League include the Lil Enzo's Red Wings vs. Predators on Friday night (Feb. 20) and the Red Wings take on the Heli-Riggen Flyers on Saturday night (Feb. 21).
