Fox run Sunday

Briefs

The Marathon of Hope is celebrating 25 years this weekend.

Squamish residents will gather at Brennan Park to run and remember Terry Fox while raising money for cancer research.

The first Marathon of Hope fundraising runs were first held 25 years ago after Fox lost his battle with cancer and was forced to end his attempt to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

The run in Squamish starts at 9 a.m. and the course takes participants to Rose Park and then back to Brennan Park.Pledges can be made online at www.terryfoxrun.org.

To date, more than $360 million has been raised for cancer research in Terry's name.

Furry Creek carts GPS equipped

Furry Creek Golf and Country Club is a little more playable these days with two new developments.

A new Global Positioning Satellite System (GPS) was installed at the club so each golf cart now has GPS unit on it to help with yardages, live group or tournament leader board scoring and a sports ticker from CBS with real time scores. The GPS system can also help relieve hunger as the system allows golfers to pre-order hot dogs at the turn.

Furry Creek is also now allowing power carts to have access to designated fairways on the course.

A total of seven holes have been selected to increase the course's playability and improve pace-of-play.
