The unofficial final trail race of the season, the Rubble Creek Classic, turned out to be a nice way to finish the year for several Squamish residents.
Delta’s Justin Hains posted the top time at this year’s race, completing the 24.5 kilometre race in 1:53:15 but right behind him was Squamish’s Eric Carter, who clocked in at 1:58:38. Carter also finished second at the Squamish 50’s 23 km race back in August.
Fresh off a win at the first ever Sky Pilot trail race on Sept. 20, Squamish resident Silas Wiefelspuett grabbed a third place finish. Wiefelspuett posted a time of 2:02:58 to reach the podium.
Also basking in victory from the Sky Pilot trail race was Vancouver’s Anne-Marie Madden, who won the female division with a time of 2:07:21. Madden beat out Whistler’s Cristina McKean (2:13:16) and Seattle’s Kim Magnus (2:21:29) to stand atop the podium.
A total of 71 competitors participated in the event, which sees runners start at the Cheakamus Lake Trail parking lot and pass through Black Tusk before finishing up on the Garibaldi Lake Trail parking lot.
