It was a fruitful weekend trip to Fernie for a number of local mountain bikers, including Megan Bedard and Mateo Quist.

Bedard prevailed in the U19 sport/expert ladies' category in a time of three minutes and 21.732 seconds. Isla O'Connor finished in the runner-up spot (3:22.984) and Maggie Sutherland was third (3:35.573).

"Took first place and the fastest woman's time of the day," Bedard wrote on social media. "I’m so happy on my riding and can’t wait for the upcoming races! Stoked for everyone!"

Among U19 expert men, it was Mateo Quist of Squamish striking gold (2:58.195) in a razor-thin duel with Bedard's ZEP Racing teammate Rafe Hudson, who ended up with silver (2:58.308). Jaxon Blake checked in for bronze (2:59.269).

"Super loose run but we’ll take it," Quist remarked on his Instagram account. "Hyped to get on track at Pano this week."
