Newly-constructed trail adds element of surprise for Toonie racers

Sports

Two newly constructed trails leading down from the end of 'PseudoTsuga' proved to add a surprising technical decent at the end of last Wednesday's Toonie Race. The two new trails, completed only one week ago, were built by local volunteering efforts and were a hit with the majority of racers.

Of the 66 participants, Ryan Edwards, and Lisa Dickson were the fastest male and female riders of the day. Edwards, who has won two of the first three races of the year was challenged by Derek Thomas, but in the end it was Edwards who prevailed. Following Thomas to the finish line were Scott Wolley and Andrew Clarke.

In the women's race, Lisa Dickson finished comfortably in front of her nearest rival, but the race for second was close as Julie Tennock finished less than 30 seconds ahead of Kathleen Sullivan.

In the overall Toonie standings Ryan Edwards has a lead of 18 points over Mike Truelove, followed by Scott Wolley one point back. In the ladies overall, Lisa Duckson and Carmen Markel are tied for first with Kathleen Sullivan one point back. Last week's post race party was hosted by Boston Pizza.
