Despite the efforts of the local Brew Pub team, Whistler F.C. has taken the Eagle Run Motor's men's Premiership Cup for the third year in a row.

The two teams squared up at the Brennan Park soccer fields on Saturday (April 9) in front of a crowd of spectators, the majority of which supported the local Brew Pub side.

Ignoring the crowd, the confident Whistler F.C. opened the scoring with a goal by Tim Shyer, however the Brew Pub's Mike Matheson was quick to equalize, and at half time the score was even.

In the second half of the match Whistler F.C. was able to secure two unanswered goals, both scored by Marvin Sanderson, who described his game winning point as the result of teamwork.

"It was a corner kick defended out of the box and taken down by Ryan [O'Conner]. Then I struck it," said Sanderson, describing his goal. "It's our third year winning. It certainly feels good to take the Premiership and the league."In the Eagle Run Motor's men's Divisional Cup, or "B" final, the Ocean Port defeated the Mountain Building Centre Rangers in a match played earlier on Saturday.

The O.P.'s Mat Rollinson scored the first goal and nearly secured a first half lead, until John Leedham of the Rangers equalized with one minute left in the half.

A goal by Ryan Doby, of the O.P. 30 minutes into the second half, secured his team's victory.

"I moved it over with my left foot and shot it from around the penalty spot area," said Doby. "It feels good to win the Divisional Cup, but it would have felt better to win the Premiership."

With the men's league now completed, many of the participants will turn their attention to Soccer Fest, a weekend long tournament taking place at Brennan Park, April 22 and 23.

Youth Soccer also ended this weekend and closing ceremonies took place Sunday afternoon. Youth soccer players interested in rep soccer are participating in try-outs over the next two weeks.
