Peewee Rep Eagles top league

The Squamish Peewee Rep Eagles finished out their season in Mission Sunday (March 4), in a weekend-long battle that, had they won, would have advanced them to the BC Provincial Finals.

Instead, the team ended the season with a 5-4 victory over New Westminster A - one of the three Tier 2 opponents they faced over the weekend - and earned themselves a banner proclaiming the team Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association Peewee "A" & "B" League Winners Tier 4.

The boys were in Mission for the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association "AA" Conference Championship Final Four Round-Robin series battling one "hard fought thriller" after another, according to manager Steve Shard.

The Eagles played their first game of the round robin format on Friday night against the host team, Mission A- the top placed team in the final four. That match-up was a hard fought nail-biter, which saw Mission overcome a one goal deficit going into the third period to defeat the Eagles 6-5.

The Eagles battled just as hard on Saturday in their second game with Aldergrove A, who clipped the Eagles wings with a late empty net goal to earn a 4-2 victory in what was an equally exciting game. Despite their two tough losses, the Eagles came back with a gutsy performance on Sunday to earn a victory in their third and final game.

The Eagles finished in third place in the final four, one spot shy of advancing to the BC Provincial Finals to be played in Nelson, later this month.

Nevertheless, the Peewee Rep Eagle's held their heads high returning to Squamish having earned, and receiving after Sunday's game, their P.C.A.H.A. Banner as Peewee "A" & "B" League Winners Tier 4 for the 2006-2007 season. Congratulations boys.
