Its going to take a minor miracle for the Quest Kermodes mens soccer team in qualify for the Pacwest provincial championships after dropping two more games over the weekend. The team sits five points behind the third place Langara Falcons and now must win its remaining two games, while also hoping for the Falcons to play a pointless upcoming weekend. The Kermodes trip to the Interior was a frustrating one, losing 2-0 to the University of British Columbia-Okanagan (UBC-O) Heat and the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Wolfpack on Saturday (Oct. 15) and Sunday (Oct. 16). The pair of losses dropped the teams record to one win, five losses and four ties on the season. After a decent start to the year, Quest hasnt been able to post a victory since Sept. 24 and their struggles on the home pitch could explain why they will likely be on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. The team has two losses and two ties in four home games this year, only scoring five goals. Its now been over a year since the Kermodes posted a win at home, when they beat Vancouver Island University (VIU) 2-1 on Oct. 16, 2010.Things are much more positive for the womens team, who officially qualified for the provincials after picking up a point in 1-1 draw against UBC-O on Saturday. The team followed that game up with a 1-0 loss to TRU and will be able to create their own playoff destiny after games this weekend. The Kermodes are in a logjam atop of the Group A standings, as they sit in third with 17 points but are only one point out of first place. They also have a chance to leapfrog first place Kwantlen, who they host on Sunday.Despite the qualification, the team has been on a bit of a slide, failing to win a game in their last five after starting the year with five consecutive wins. The teams will next host Douglas College on Saturday (Oct. 22) and Kwantlen on Sunday (Oct. 23). Womens games start at noon, with the mens games hitting the pitch at 2 p.m.For more information on the teams, visit www.questkermodes.ca.
