Police body builder qualifies for Nationals

Sports

Like many people in Squamish, Stacey Rogers likes to stay in shape. But her shape is sending her to Toronto to compete in a national body building competition in June.

When the RCMP constable was posted to a remote town in northern B.C., boredom turned her body building hobby into an athletic pursuit. And it wasn't long before Rogers started competing.

"I watched a show and I thought I'd give it a whirl," she said.Rogers has only been training for one and a half years, but her diligence has already earned her a trip to Toronto to compete in a national body building competition. Rogers qualified last Saturday (April 9) when she placed third at the Fitness and Model Expo (FAME) West Regional qualifier.

"I'm pretty excited," said Rogers. "My girlfriend's been bodybuilding for five years and she placed second, so we both get to go."

The FAME competition is held June 10 to 12 and includes celebrity speakers, seminars, workshops and pro shows.

Rogers says she doesn't have high expectations for the competition.

"I'm expecting to go and have fun."

But travelling to Toronto will allow her to finally meet in person an advisor who has been helping Rogers with her nutritional plan by studying pictures she e-mails him.

Rogers takes the stage at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Friday June 10.
