Squamish FC remains undefeated

Local team shuts out Shaheen FC to improve to 4-0

Squamish FC continued their winning ways, defeating Shaheen FC 1-0 at Brennan Park on Saturday (Oct. 2).

The team now improves to four wins and no losses and sits atop Division 2A in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League standings.

Shaheen started off strong, pushing numbers forward and creating opportunities but failing to take advantage in the early going.

Squamish adjusted and began playing more aggressive but were denied a call after being called offside. The first half ended with the two teams locked in a 0-0 draw.

Squamish made some more adjustments in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts early into the second half.

Tim Shier delivered a near perfect corner and James Bellinger met it bravely to rise above the defence and head home a crucial goal.

After securing the lead, Squamish took control of the game and eliminated any hope Shaheen had of evening the game up. Squamish was awarded a penalty kick after Shaheen's keeper took out Shier but Bellinger's shot was weak and the goalie guessed correctly to stop the attempt.

The man of the match for Squamish was deemed to be Russel Adams for his non-stop running, strong defending and calm play at the back line.

Next up for the team will be a match against the Ladner Rangers in South Delta. The players are scheduled to hit the pitch at Holly Park Turf at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 9).
