The Squamish Squash Club is once again hosting its annual Women's Squash Week event later this month.

The club will offer intro sessions for newer squash players on Sept. 18, 19 and 22. There will be two instructors on hand to help guide the players. Additionally, the club will host two round-robins. The first will be on Sept. 20 for intermediate and experienced players and the next one will be on Sept. 22 for beginner players after an intro session earlier that night.

“Squash is the perfect way to get a fun workout in with friends on those cold, rainy, winter nights that we know are coming soon,” the club wrote in a Facebook post for the event.

The club noted that it is a free event and encouraged any women who are new to squash or who have not played that many times in the past to give the sport a shot. The club asked that interested folks bring clean indoor gym shoes and a water bottle and that racquets and goggles are provided if needed.

According to Dara Sklar of the club, interested women can create a free, drop-in player account at squamishsquash.ca and then RSVP to the event or time that works for them.

Furthermore, Sklar said that the club hosted 81 women during the week-long event in 2021, so they expect slots to go quickly this year.

“And then, for the fall season, we had a 79% female membership. Those numbers are unheard of in this sport, where most clubs would be lucky to have 20-25% of women in their membership,” Sklar said in an email to The Squamish Chief.
