Squamish swimmer collects gold at MSABC Championships

Swimmer Katie Coombs secures gold medals, sets a personal best and meets an icon of the pool at provincial championships.

Squamish's Katie Coombs lapped the competition at the 2023 Masters Swimming Association Of British Columbia (MSABC) Provincial Championships in Kamloops.

The  Squamish Titan swam in eight races over the event, which was held June 16 to 18.

She garnered gold in the 400-free, with a personal best time, she said; gold in the 100-back: gold in the 50-free; gold in the 200-back: gold in the 200-free: gold in the 100-individual medley; bronze in the 50-back, and a fifth place finish in the 100-free.

Coombs told The Squamish Chief she also had the privilege of swimming alongside 99-year-old Betty Brussel, of Surrey, B.C., who has made headlines because she didn't start swimming competitively until she was 68. She has since garnered plenty of medals.
