A local soccer league is hosting an event to raise money to help more families afford the soccer season.

The Howe Sound Soccer League (HSSL) is hosting the Kicks for Kids event on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. on field four at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

“It’ll be an exciting weekend for our soccer community as our players kick off their first games of the season followed by our Kicks for Kids co-ed game featuring players from our local HSSL community,” wrote Cam Ellis of the HSSL in an email to The Squamish Chief.

“For just $20, you can participate and contribute to supporting our youth soccer players, as 100% of the proceeds will go directly to helping families who need assistance with their kids’ participation in organized soccer.”

As the first event of its kind for the HSSL, Ellis said the league believes “every child should have the chance to play and enjoy the beautiful game of soccer.”

After the friendly match, the Squamish Youth Soccer Association will host a barbecue with prizes. The barbecue is free for registered HSSL or SYSA players and by donation for spectators.

To register, go to howesoundsoccer.com and select 2023 Kicks for Kids.

“Come down for our opening weekend of soccer and indulge in your passion for the game while showing your support for local kids,” said Ellis.
