They came, they played, they left.
About 50 participants in four categories came out to the Sea to Sky Open squash tournament, but around 60 per cent of them were out of towners, including the top two finishers in the A division event.
Ben Thomas from Whistler was the eventual top finisher, with a 3-1 victory over North Vancouver's Mark Koral.
"They had a barn burner of a match," said Neil Metcalf, the vice president of the Squamish Squash Club. "Smart rallies, smart shots. They put on a good show."
Steven Jacobs, a Squamish squash player, took third place in the A division.
In the B level division, Kamloops' Graham Swann took the top spot with a 3-0 win over Brad Rustad from Squamish."Brad played a hot game," Metcalf said. "Highly mobile."
The top finishers in the C level were Jim McKean in first (winning 3-1) and Peter Fritz in second. Ken Miller took the consolation prize. All the winners were from Squamish.
"That C draw was a tough draw, well played, well fought," said Metcalf. "McKean played extremely well."Peter didn't seem as focused as he was leading up to this."
Squamish also had a strong showing in the D Novice level. Mark Kershbaumer beat Roman Buksa 3-1. Roger Shaw took the consolation prize. The D Novice category combined the women's C division with the novice players because there were not enough players in the D division.
