Wilson, Sherlock and Bragg finish top 10 in NW Cup race

Squamish-based mountain bikers Emma Wilson and Kayley Sherlock were sixth and seventh, while Cami Bragg of Whistler rode to ninth

Sea to Sky mountain bikers Emma Wilson, Kayley Sherlock and Cami Bragg kicked off their 2023 campaigns in Port Angeles, Wash. on the NW Cup circuit.

Wilson crossed the line sixth in a time of three minutes and 1.95 seconds in the U18 downhill race on April 16, edging out fellow Squamolian Sherlock in seventh (3:02.40). Bragg, the lone Whistlerite in contention, ended up ninth (3:04.60). 

"[NW Cup], you were a blast!" said Wilson on her Instagram account after the event. "Race day was a bit of a bummer falling into [sixth], but just something to learn from. overall it was a great track and a fun weekend." 

Sherlock also gave the Wash. venue a shout-out on social media. "Couldn’t be happier to be back racing with the homies! I didn’t have the smoothest finals run but it was fun as hell!"

"So fired up for the BC Cups this summer!" continued Sherlock. "Can’t wait to build confidence and get some good runs in this year!" 

"Good times racing at Port Angeles this weekend, looking forward to the coming season!" added Bragg in her own post.

Americans dominated the 13-rider field as two Wash. natives, Aletha Ostgaard (2:38.58) and Matilda Melton (2:41.96), raced to first and second respectively. Addison Buckenberger of Calif. rounded out the podium in third (2:54.75).

Tayte Proulx-Royds of Kelowna, B.C. was the top Canadian in fourth (2:55.44). Fernie's Joy Attalia rode to fifth (2:57.82).
