TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Retail trade

Statistics Canada is expected to release its retail sales figures for September on Tuesday. The data will help fill in the picture of how the economy finished the third quarter amid worries of an impending recession.

Couche-Tard results

Alimentation Couche-Tard will release its latest quarterly results on Tuesday. The company said earlier this year that higher fuel and food costs were affecting customer driving and shopping habits while boosting sales of its private label brand.

Bank of Canada

Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem and senior deputy governor Carolyn Rogers will appear before the House of Commons standing committee on finance on Wednesday. The appearance comes ahead of the central bank's next interest rate announcement set for Dec. 7.

Ukraine conference

The Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce hosts a conference in Toronto on Wednesday highlighting investing opportunities and rebuilding efforts in Ukraine. The event is expected to bring together top business and government leaders from both countries to talk about how Canada can help Ukraine.

Black Friday

The unofficial start to the holiday shopping season will kick off with Black Friday this week. The critical time for retailers comes as shoppers search for deals with inflation already taking a bite out of their holiday budgets.
