RANKIN INLET, Nunavut — Health officials in Nunavut are warning residents of a sewage spill in Rankin Inlet.

The territory's departments of Health, and Community and Government services say the spill took place at the lift station across from the community's health centre.

They warn that sewage and wastewater can contain bacteria, fungus and viruses that may cause illness.

A spill report states more than 330,000 litres of wastewater were discharged on Monday.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area around the lift station and the waterfront.
