Canada's Sarah Mitton second in Diamond League shot put

SUZHOU, China — Canada's Sarah Mitton finished second in shot put in Diamond League track and field behind reigning world champion Chase Jackson of the United States on Saturday. Mitton of Brooklyn, N.S., led after a first-round heave of 19.

SUZHOU, China — Canada's Sarah Mitton finished second in shot put in Diamond League track and field behind reigning world champion Chase Jackson of the United States on Saturday.

Mitton of Brooklyn, N.S., led after a first-round heave of 19.86 metres, which Chase bettered in the second round at 20.03. 

Mitton also finished second to Jackson in the 2023 world championship.

Song Jiayuan of China was third at 19.83 metres Saturday.

Mitton finished fourth last week in Xiamen, China, which was the first of 15 stops this season on the international Diamond League circuit.

The next meet is May 10 in Doha, Qatar.

Vancouver's Regan Yee placed ninth in the women's 3,000-metre steeplechase Saturday in a season-best time of nine minutes 26.12 seconds.

Kenya's Beatric Chepkoech was the victor in 9:07.36 ahead of runner up Peruth Chemutai of Uganda in a time of 9:15.46.

Germany's Gesa Felicitas Krause finished third in 9:16.24.
