The District of Squamish has awarded a $237,633 — excluding GST — road painting contract that will run from 2019 to 2021.

Council voted unanimously in favour of granting the job to Aardvark Pavement Marking Services Ltd. on Mar. 5.

The company bid the following amounts for each year: $76,830 for 2019; $79,202 for 2020 and $81,600 for 2021.

Aardvark will be painting road line markings, including centre, fog, and lane lines, in addition to stop bars and other short lines.

The company is no stranger to the job. It previously won the 2015 to 2018 contract with the District.

Coun. John French asked if the contract could be awarded to a local company.

Staff replied that no local companies have the ability to meet the District's requirements.

Municipal staff gave Aardvark the highest ranking out of competitors who also put in a bid with the District.

According to staff rankings, Finish Line Traffic Marking was second; Infinite Road Marking Ltd. was third and Scottish Line Painting Ltd. was last.
