Creation of Squamish Valley agricultural plan soon to be underway

Announcement comes after a $30,000 grant from the province

Authorities are hoping an agricultural plan for the Squamish Valley will help encourage the local agricultural food sector and promote sustainability, among other things.

The District of Squamish and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District announced they’ll be developing the plan thanks to $30,000 in federal and provincial grants.

The SLRD and the District will match the funds with $15,000 each as well as in-kind support.

Both authorities have discussed the idea for some time, but this cash injection will help move things along.

Previously, both authorities co-operated in the creation of an agricultural land inventory for Squamish and its surrounding rural areas.

A steering committee will be formed to guide the planning process. More information about the process and kick-off events will be released later in the fall.

This project is being funded in part by the governments of Canada and B.C. through programs delivered by the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC.
