Cyclist hit on Highway 99 Monday afternoon

Traffic to remain backed up most of the day: RCMP

A cyclist was hit by a vehicle on the Sea to Sky Highway south of Furry Creek Monday afternoon.

The rider has been transported to a Lower Mainland hospital, according to Squamish RCMP.

BC Emergency Health Services told The Chief the call came in regarding an injured cyclist southbound on Highway 99 at 10:52 a.m. and the service responded with two ground units.

No other information was available about the person's condition.

Squamish RCMP say both lanes were closed for a short period to allow emergency vehicles to access the rider, but it has reopened.

Traffic is still slow and expected to be for most of the day travelling southbound.
