Early morning fire destroys Squamish family home

An early morning fire has destroyed one home and damaged another on the Wiwk’em ( Waiwakum) Reserve, in Brackendale. No one was injured as a result of the fire. The blaze, at the end of Axen Road, erupted just before 3:45 a.m., Nov.

An early morning fire has destroyed one home and damaged another on the Wiwk’em (Waiwakum) Reserve, in Brackendale.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

The blaze, at the end of Axen Road,  erupted just before 3:45 a.m., Nov. 26, Squamish Fire Rescue Chief Bill Stoner said in an email to The Squamish Chief. 

Emergency Support Services volunteers are responding in co-ordination with the District of Squamish and Squamish Nation, to support the people impacted.

Four fire trucks were on the scene.

There is no word on the cause of the fire at this time.

A Facebook group — Community Support Page for Squamish Family House Fire —  has been started to organize help for the family.
