The happy family, shortly after Lillianna, the first Sea to Sky Corridor baby of the year, was born. Big sister is Nova Rayne.

The first baby of 2019 in the Sea to Sky Corridor was born at home at 8:30 a.m. on New Year's Day.

Lillianna-Skye was born to proud Furry Creek parents Larissa Dasse and Nathan Rivait. This is the first born for Dasse and second daughter for Rivait.

"It is pretty cool," said Rivait about having the first baby of the year. Mom is doing well, though tired, and baby is healthy and was sleeping soundly when The Chief reached the happy parents by phone just hours after the birth.

"We are doing pretty good," Rivait said.

Vancouver Coastal Health confirmed this was the first birth of the year in the Squamish area.

Lillianna is a mix of a "newer-age" name with an older-age name, said Dasse, who added that Skye was the name of a teacher who died and who meant a lot to her.

Lillianna weighs 7 pounds, 12 ounces and is 21 inches (53 centimetres) long.

She took 32 hours of labour to arrive. Her birth was supported by two local midwives in shifts as well as by a nurse who came as a volunteer, Rivait said.

The couple had a  feeling they might have their child close to the New Year as she had been due Dec. 26. When the due date came and went, Dasse went for acupuncture to try to move things along and that did the trick, she said.

Labour started five hours later.

Rivait, who owns a construction business in Squamish, is originally from Windsor, Ontario, but has lived in the corridor since the Olympics. Dasse is originally from Clearwater, B.C. The family moved to Furry Creek about eight months ago.
