New Squamish bus fare structures start in September

BC Transit also implementing bus route expansions

The wheels on the bus are going ‘round, as BC Transit is announcing route expansions and a new fare structure starting September.

BC Transit will be swapping out its transfer system in exchange for the DayPASS program.

“As part of the introduction of the DayPASS program, transfers and scratch-off DayPASSes will no longer be available in the Squamish transit system,” reads a press release from the transit authority.

Instead, DayPASSes can be purchased on the bus as of Sept. 1.

Passengers can use the $4 DayPASS as many times as they want within the transit system for the day, rather than needing a transfer or scratch-off DayPASS. Normal fare is $2 per ride, so the DayPASS is equivalent to a round-trip, BC Transit says.

In its announcement, the authority also included details about its route expansions slated for Sept. 3.

Beginning this fall, BC Transit routes will now include Discovery Way on Route 4, and more service to routes 1 Brackendale, 2 Highlands, 3 Valleyclife and 9 Quest University.

BC Transit and the District of Squamish announced the expansion will mean 1,400 service hours, increasing frequency and areas.

These changes were passed by District council unanimously in March.
