Rain will help clean up Upper Squamish Valley fire over the weekend

Crews will then snuff out whatever the showers don’t

Crews working on the Upper Squamish Valley fire might be able to take a little bit of a breather over the weekend, as rain is expected to help with the battle.

Most, if not all, the firefighters will be pulled off the job during that time, said Marg Drysdale, information officer with BC Wildfire Service on April 24.

However, people will still be keeping an eye on it.

“Likely crews will be off the site over the weekend,” said Drysdale. “It will continue to be monitored, but they’re going to allow the weather to do its thing.”

Firefighters will then come back and mop up whatever the rain doesn’t take care of.

Environment Canada is predicting rain from Saturday until Tuesday.

The 203-hectare Magee Road fire remains under control. There are no more flames, and, at most, smoke occasionally is emerging from some hot spots.

A crew of 16 firefighters was on the job on April 24.

Thursday, 36 firefighters were continuing mop-up work that consists of finding hot spots and snuffing them out.

A helicopter was helping bucket hard-to-reach spots from above.
