A sailboat usually moored in the Mamquam Blind Channel won't be setting sail into Howe Sound anytime soon.
On Jan 4, the Coast Guard received a report of a sailing vessel in Mamquam Blind Channel that had blown ashore because of a recent storm, a spokesperson for the organization told The Chief.
The vessel was not grounded, sustained no damage and was re-anchored away from shore.
On Monday, Jan. 27, the Coast Guard was notified that the boat had sunk.
Approximately 20 litres of hydrocarbons were reported to be on board. Hydrocarbons make up fossil fuels, such as natural gas and petroleum.
The Coast Guard is in contact with the vessel owner, who is making plans to salvage the vessel after refloating efforts were unsuccessful, the spokesperson said.
In 2019, the Coast Guard received a total of separate four pollution reports for Mamquam Blind Channel.
