A proposal for a zoning amendment for up to 920 residential units and 120 resort units in Furry Creek will be reviewed by the SLRD. The development proposal also includes around 1,500 square metres of commercial floorspace, a private marina and community facilities.

Affordable housing would also be supplied. While most of the proposed uses are already allowed since much of the area in not zoned, the applicant is requesting zoning for the resort units.

On May 22, the SLRD board resolved to proceed with a review of comprehensive zoning amendment application from Fine Peace Furry Creek Developments Ltd.

In 2017, the Chinese company purchased the Furry Creek golf course, and the land immediately around it, which includes the waterfront area, in a 175-acre lot from the Burrard Group. It purchased the rest of the 1,000 acre area once owned by Tana Canada — who built the golf course and some housing — from Parklane and Wesgroup in 2018.

The board also asked staff to work with the developers on making building net-zero energy ready by 2032 in accordance with the BC Energy Step Code, reviewing current building trends and working on a transit management plan.

If the application goes forward, the board will need to approve the developer's plans for water, waste water and stormwater. This approval will need to be granted before the zoning amendment bylaw.
