In a show of solidarity with Humboldt, some Squamish students are expected to be wearing hockey jerseys tomorrow.

The movement mirrors a nationwide social media campaign called #JerseysforHumboldt that was started to honour the people affected by the Humboldt Broncos bus crash tragedy.

Phillip Clarke, a district principal and director, said some students and teachers throughout the Sea to Sky School District have expressed interest in participating.

“In all of our communities up and down the corridor, people have been impacted by this tragedy,” said Clarke. “I’ve heard from many principals and teachers and families that they do intend to wear jerseys to school tomorrow.”

Clarke said that it’s entirely up to individual students to decide whether they want to wear a jersey.

Some businesses in Squamish have also said they want to show their support for Humboldt on April 12.

A number of merchants are said to be planning to put out hockey sticks outside their shops as a symbol of solidarity at around 10 a.m..
