A private celebration of life is being held for Ava Grace Gnanaprakasam on March 6.

A private celebration of life for Squamish’s Ava Grace Gnanaprakasam will be held by her family on March 6.

On Feb. 28, two-year-old Ava Grace died after being hit by a vehicle in front of the Independent Grocer in Squamish. The community and the Rock Church have since come together to raise funds for the family.

The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Squamish Hospital Foundation. The Squamish Hospital holds special meaning to the family, as it is also where Ava Grace was born to Ivana and Jason Gnanaprakasam. She is survived by her parents and younger sister.

An obituary for Ava Grace says, “The family wishes to acknowledge and thank all of the first responders from paramedics and police, to victim services, doctors and nurses at Squamish Emergency and hospital. Their hearts go out to all of them as well. They would also like to thank, from the bottom of their hearts, the community of Squamish, for the outpouring of affection, love, prayers and support, as well as the generous GoFundMe donations to support them at this difficult time.”

At this time, the family is asking for privacy.
