Shannon Falls Retirement Residence has confirmed a case of COVID-19, marking the first publicly announced time the virus has reached a local retirement home.

General manager Lisa Friesen issued a written statement to The Chief, saying that a staff member tested positive for the virus and is self isolating at home.

“As a precaution, residents are being asked to limit their movements inside the residence and outside visitors and family are being asked to stay connected by video calls and telephone,” the statement reads.

As of Dec. 30, no other staff members or residents have tested positive for the virus, she said.

“Residents and family members understand the risks the pandemic poses and they have expressed support and gratitude to the management for these extra safety measure[s],” she added.
