The Under One Roof project received a big boost on Saturday night.

At Crave: Dining for Dignity 2017, the annual fundraiser for the Squamish Helping Hands Society, Squamish Savings presented the Under One Roof project with a $300,000 donation.

Under One Roof is an all-in-one facility slated for Third Avenue downtown that will include five types of housing — emergency, low barrier, transitional, recovery and affordable independence — food services, employment training, a grocery food bank, laundromat and other services.

To offer all this, the vision is for the development to include community partners including the Squamish Food Bank, Cutting Barriers, Vancouver Coastal Health and others.

Squamish Savings board chair Margo Dent said during the presentation of the donation, at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park, that Under One Roof is the type of community-focused initiative Squamish Savings likes to support.

The Under One Roof proposal resulted from a partnership between Squamish Helping Hands Society, the District of Squamish (DOS) and BC Housing. The District is providing municipally owned land for the development at the southwest corner of Main Street and Third Avenue. Squamish Helping Hands Society will operate the facility.
