The Squamish Valley Rod and Gun Club is offering up a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of the person who poached a Roosevelt elk in the Squamish Valley earlier this month.

A bull elk was shot and killed along the paved portion of Squamish Valley Road sometime between Nov. 1 and 2., according to the Sea to Sky Conservation Officer Service (COS).

There is no open hunting season for elk in this area.

Club president Mike Morgan told The Chief that hunters and conservation go hand in hand.

"It is part of being the rod and gun club," he said, adding he can not recall ever hearing about a case of poaching like this locally.

The club currently has 750 members.

Anyone with information about the poached elk is asked to please call the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
