A lucky lotto player won $500,000 at the Squamish Walmart the day before his birthday.

British Columbia Lottery Corporation announced today (May 27) that Francis Masculino was the big winner from the March 3 Lotto Max draw.

“This means I can spend more time at home with my kids,” said Masculino, in a news release.

He noted that the life-changing win means he can work one job, instead of two.

The Whistler resident said that he was grateful for the big prize, which he’ll use to pay off his vehicle and buy a home.

Masculino, who moved to Whistler from the Philippines in 2008, initially checked his ticket while filling up for gas, but couldn’t believe it.

So he drove home and downloaded the BCLC app to check it again.

Once he arrived, he told his wife immediately, who almost cried upon hearing the good news.
