Trumpeter swans often reach up to six feet in length and weigh more than 25 pounds, according to an online bird guide by Cornell University. Getting airborne is a feat, taking almost a 100 metre "runway." As well as stops in Canada, the trumpeter breeds on wetlands in remote Alaska and the northwestern U.S., and they winter on various ice-free coastal and inland waters.
