Make sure that the new Christmas tree is strapped down good to the roof of the car today and that the lawn ornaments are tucked away, Squamish.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for our area — coastal B.C.

These warnings are issued when 70 km/h or higher of sustained wind or gusts to 90 km/h or more are expected.

Environment Canada says, "southeast winds of 60 to 90 km/h are occurring over exposed coastal sections ahead of an approaching Pacific frontal system. These winds will ease this afternoon as the front pushes to the south."

Obviously, with such strong winds, damage may occur to roof shingles, windows, and those blow-up Christmas ornaments. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

The temperature will hover around 5 °C throughout Sunday and the rain will continue, heavy at times, prompting Environment Canada to also issue a heavy rainfall warning for Howe Sound.

Up to 70 mm of rain are expected by late this evening.

Such is Squamish in December.

In Whistler, snowfall up to 15 to 20 cm is expected.
