Woodfibre LNG won't be building a new dock at Darrell Bay, the company says

Current infrastructure will work to transport workers to site

Woodfibre LNG won't need to build a new dock at Darrell Bay after all.

The company had submitted an application to Transport Canada under the Navigable Waters Act to build a new dock at the site adjacent to Shannon Falls Provincial Park.

The land is owned by B.C.'s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

According to Woodfibre LNG's Rebecca Scott, the company withdrew the application on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

"We have withdrawn the application because recent work at Darrell Bay determined that we would be able to use existing dock infrastructure and we don’t need to build a new one," she told The Chief. The company already has approval under its Environmental Assessment to use the provincial dock currently on site.

The corporation needs a dock so it can transport construction crews to the Woodfibre site across Howe Sound, where they plan to build an LNG facility.
