The New York Times has listed Squamish as one of the top places to visit in 2015.
On Friday, the newspaper listed Squamish 32nd on the list of 52 places from around the globe to go this year.
The article asked whether the $22 million Sea to Sky Gondola would put this mountain town on the world map, given that nearly half a million people have now made the ascent since the gondola opened in May 2014.
Squamish draws visitors with “an unusual combination of West Coast wilderness and accessibility,” the article said, noting the proximity to Vancouver.
“Hundreds of trails weave through Pacific rain forest to glacial lakes, waterfalls and peaks. Kiteboarders ply a 26-mile fjord, adventurers climb 2,300-foot Stawamus Chief, and birders gather for the annual return of thousands of bald eagles,” read the article.
