A 14-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing a senior in a Toronto parking lot as she loaded groceries into her car is set to return to court next week.

The teen facing a second-degree murder charge made a brief appearance in court this morning, where he heard that his case has been pushed to July 28.

Shahnaz Pestonji, 71, was pronounced dead in hospital after being found with stab wounds in a North York parking lot Thursday morning.

Police have said that they believe a robbery escalated into a deadly attack.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday following what Toronto police said was an extensive search that included canine units, drones and door-to-door canvassing.

Police released the name and image of the teen during their search, but say that authorization has expired and the suspect can no longer be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
