BRAMPTON — Police in Brampton, Ont., say they’ve arrested a man in an alleged abduction that led to an Amber Alert on Thursday.
Peel Regional Police issued the Amber Alert for an eight-month-old baby boy shortly after 6 p.m., after a 30-year-old man allegedly abducted the child.
They say the child was in a vehicle with his mother and uncle at a plaza near Main Street South and Charolais Boulevard before the incident occurred.
Investigators say the child’s uncle moved to the driver’s seat when the mother exited the vehicle and he drove off with the baby "without consent or explanation."
Police say officers found the child unharmed and abandoned in a parking lot near Resolution Drive and Rutherford Road, at 6:23 p.m.
Police say they saw the suspect driving in the vicinity, but the man allegedly rammed into a police cruiser when officers attempted to stop him and they discontinued the pursuit.
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning and now faces several charges, including abduction of a person under 14, abandoning a child and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
