The last all-candidates meeting before the election will be held in the Squamish Seniors Centre tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and all seniors and others are urged to attend. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

The annual Christmas Bazaar at St. John the Divine Anglican Church (1930 Diamond Rd.) will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. The bake table is always laden with seasonal baking, and the sewing table will have many lovely items with gift-giving in mind. Something new this year is angel card reading, and as well, there will be a jewelry display, books and more. Visit the Tea Room for coffee or tea and tasty treats. Poinsettias can be ordered and pickup will be Dec. 12.

The Squamish gardeners will meet on Monday, Nov. 17 at 6:45 p.m. in the Sandman Hotel and Suites. The evening’s speaker will be Jo-Ann Canning, a master gardener from Vancouver with a wide gardening experience. She has taught and spoken about organic and sustainable gardening since 1996. Her topic will be woodland garden design for the northwest.

The birthday celebration this month at Hilltop House will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. Those to be honoured include: Doreen Hyland, Jamie Pietila, Joan Gravkin, Olaf Olafsson, Elaine Nelson, Thelma Whitfield and Diane Topley.

This evening, Thursday, Nov. 13, the Squamish Historical Society will welcome former mayor and long-time resident Corinne Lonsdale to the Brackendale Art Gallery at 7 p.m. Lonsdale will speak about 50 years of change and challenges. Admission is by donation.

The Friends of the Library book sale is this weekend at the Squamish Public Library. On Saturday, Nov. 15 the hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 16 from noon to 3 p.m. In partnership with the Brennan Park Recreation Centre, parents and young children can join Storytime on Ice on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the arena. Please note the regular rates apply for the skate program.

The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors for grocery distribution on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

Local author Graham Fuller will be launching his latest book, Turkey and the Arab Spring, at the Squamish Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Fuller is a former high-ranking CIA official who spent more than four decades living, working, traveling and writing about the Muslim world.

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Seniors’ Christmas Banquet to be held in the Seniors Centre on Friday, Dec. 12 and are available at the front desk at $20 each, cash only please. Along with the delicious dinner will be entertainment and dancing. The monthly themed luncheon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 27 at 11:45 a.m.; please purchase tickets by Nov. 26. The Mamquam Kids Choir will be along to entertain us.

Vancouver Coastal Health has two more flu clinics offered on Thursdays, Nov. 20 and Thursday, Nov. 27, from 3 to 6 p.m. each day at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre. It’s important to have your B.C. Care Card and remember to wear short sleeves.

The Over the Hill Hikers will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. at Canadian Tire for a Half Nelson hike. For more information, call Heather at 604-892-9003.
