Remembrance services planned
The annual Remembrance Day service will be held at Brennan Park Recreation Centre on Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 Colour Party led by Sgt-at-Arms Ryan Pedersen and the Black Tusk Caledonia Pipe Band will march into the auditorium followed by contingents from RCMP, members of the 835 Griffin Squamish Air Cadets, scout and guide groups, and ambulance and Coast Guard members. The address will be given by our MP John Weston, and a cadet will read the famous Flanders Field poem. The Squamish United Church choir will also participate. Residents planning to attend are asked to be seated by 10:30 a.m. and not later than 10:45 a.m.

St. John’s Anglican Church will welcome the Legion Colour Party and other Legion members to their annual Remembrance Day service on Sunday (Nov. 9) at 10 a.m.

The Squamish Environment Society will hold its monthly bird count on Sunday (Nov. 9) when members will meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub at 8 a.m. The group will be looking for all bird species and will be on the watch for the return of the bald eagles. The 2014 Squamish Election Day will be held on Saturday (Nov. 15), but for your convenience, advance polls will be open at the Squamish Seniors Centre from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 8) and at the Squamish Public Library from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 12).

Tickets for the annual Seniors Christmas banquet to be held on Friday (Dec. 12) in the Squamish Seniors Centre go on sale starting next Wednesday (Nov. 12) and will be available at the front desk at $20 per person, cash only. The annual event is co-sponsored by the District of Squamish and the Squamish Seniors’ Society.

The Squamish Public Library will welcome author Angie Abdou on Thursday (Nov. 13) from 6 to 8 p.m. At that time, Angie will discuss her latest novel, Between. Her most well known novel is The Bone Cage, which was on Canada Reads 2011. This evening (Thursday, Nov. 6) at 6:30 p.m., the Library and Quest University will welcome Richard Hoshino and his subject will be: Discovering the Human Calculator in You.

The annual Christmas Bazaar at St. John’s Anglican Church will be held on Saturday (Nov. 15) from 10 a.m. to noon. I will have more information next week, but be assured the tables will be laden with home baking, sewing, books and more.

Friends of the Library book sale will be held at the Squamish Public Library on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 15 and 16). Donations will be accepted for children’s books and popular reading materials that are in good condition. Textbooks, Reader’s Digest and National Geographic magazines will not be accepted.
