Beaches are for all

EDITOR,

While driving to work this morning I heard CBC mention that Lions Bay was trying to privatize or limit access to the beachfront there to residents only.

I am amazed at the entitlement and righteousness of such a thought, but have heard the same ideas at other developments along the Howe Sound.

Canada has three shores that are Canadian and under federal jurisdiction. We here in B.C. hold our Pacific coast in trust through Crown lands for the enjoyment of all Canadians.

Lions Bay enjoys this Canadian coastline, as we all do, all along the coast of this beautiful province.

Imagine White Rock, Vancouver or anywhere else limiting access to the beach! Absurd!

Lions Bay has encroached on one of the few beaches along Howe Sound and it is about time a public park was made of the beach there.

Access and parking has been almost developed away from the public, but I for one will continue to enjoy the beach when I feel like it.

I do so at Furry Creek, at Minaty Bay and in Britannia and will do so wherever good, sandy oceanfront beaches find themselves.

That is a right as a Canadian and a few selfish people only get me motivated to visit "their" beaches more often.
