The British Columbia/Yukon of the Royal Canadian Legion is sponsoring a youth singing competition. 

The winners will sing O Canada and Amazing Grace at the BC Lions half-time show on Friday (Nov. 7) during the Legion’s Salute to Veterans and Military Valour. The legion wants to showcase the talents of choirs and soloists. To apply, create a Youtube account and sing with passion O Canada and Amazing Grace. The entry deadline is Sept. 15, judging  Sept. 30, rehearsals in October and the grand performance on Nov. 7.

This evening (Thursday, Aug. 21) the feature-length documentary Secretariat’s Jockey featuring the story of jockey Ron Turcotte will be shown at the Squamish Public Library at 6:30 p.m.

Cedar Valley Waldorf School, located at 38265 Westway Ave. in Valleycliffe, is seeking volunteers for Saturday (Aug. 23) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help ready the school for September. Come out for a couple hours or come for the day! Work projects include light carpentry, yard work, painting and general clean-up. No experience is required, and lunch and snacks are provided. It is hard to believe, but the 20th annual Brackendale Fall Fair is just over two weeks away on Saturday (Sept. 6) from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are many volunteer opportunities to get involved with, including general information and setup – (604) 898-3333, exhibit tent – (604) 898-3300, and vendors please call (604) 898-4873.
