Billboard a bad idea

Editor,

I recently read your front page news story -` Billboard (July 24, 2009)' regarding the decision the Squamish band has made to erect billboards across from the Chief.

As a non resident and frequent tourist to Squamish, I find that this idea has not been well thought out. It is certainly a disappointing decision that has been made.

For people that object to these billboards, the remedy is quite simple. Do what I do. Just do not support any business that advertises on a billboard, and call them and tell them why.

It is because of their poor choice in their method of advertising.

I think a responsible company will take notice, especially if they get hundreds of calls.

As for the First Nations, I appreciate that everyone needs to find ways to generate income, but by destroying the beauty of their land seems to be the worst possible idea. There must be ways to take advantage of the natural resource without destroying it.

It seems that as soon as money is to be made, the respect for their traditional lands is overlooked.
