Editor,

I find the negative response to the Squamish Nations plan to install a sign on the highway disturbing. The non-Native community has hundreds of signs along the highway advertising everything from our own town to cars and restaurants.

We even have commercial signs in our public parks and arenas.

There is a prominent sign with out mayor's name on it right on the highway. Depending on which way you are traveling on the highway these signs can be seen to interfere with one view or another.

Why is it that we only get upset when the native community tries to put up a sign? It is hilarious that a community that has had a large gorilla floating above a car dealership and currently has a 35-ft wood carving of a logger beside the Adventure Centre is critical of the Squamish Nation proposal.
