EDITOR,

I just got details from the March 18 council meeting and it appears council passed a motion to include backyard chickens and residential farmgate sales into the definition of urban agriculture, so it is included in the zoning bylaw omnibus amendment.

There are many suitable agricultural areas in Squamish where hens, roosters, geese and turkeys can do well for those interested in having or selling, but it is not fair to now apply the rezoning to just any or all residential areas.

We have enjoyed living with great neighbours here on Garibaldi Flats since 1997 and all of us would be disturbed by noisy fowl, attracting bears, and sales activities to our and many other quiet areas.

We strongly urge council not to pass these amendments.
