Clean it up

Editor,

Over the past three weeks I have been staying in your beautiful town visiting from rural Ontario. My daughters and their partners have lived in Squamish for the last few years. They are active members of your community and were anxious for me to experience it.

I went for several walks along your beautiful trials surrounding your town. However one trail, if you would call it that, is nothing more than a garbage disposal for your fast food restaurants.

It was disgusting. Plastic containers, garbage, straws, plastic bags, even a mattress, all along your scenic trail. When I asked different people what was going on, what was the reason for this, the only answers I received were "Oh it's behind the high school," or "It's right by the restaurants and everyone dumps their garbage there," or "We don't take that trail cause its too dirty."

Who cares whose fault it is clean it up!

Stop ignoring it! I'm sure it's not just the kids, or the fast food restaurants and once again who cares. Get your community involved.

I'm sure the restaurants would be happy to donate some gloves and bags to help with the clean up and perhaps the schools could do their regular runs or walks along the trails and pick up the garbage. It could be learning experience for all.

The fact that everyone seems to be aware of it is quite shocking. Hopefully, this letter will work in a positive form and further help community awareness to keep Squamish the beautiful place that it is.
