EDITOR,

As a founding member and member of the Britannia Beach Community Association (BBCA) for the last 24 years, it saddens me to hear that some of theresidents would like to take the foreshore lease out of the BBCA and make it aseparate entity. I have always understood that the BBCA is only involved in order to have a say in the future development of the foreshore but to give it up now would be like throwing away 24 years of community work. There are very few spots along the Sea to Sky Corridor with ocean access and for my part, I would like them to stay as public as possible.

I understand moorage has gone up but it is still a far cry from Sunset Marina. The BBCA is a democratic association and votes make change.

Let's have a community forum on the moorage fees.

Let's stay united so that when the outside developers come to forage, we can stand united.

Let's make the foreshore resident-friendly.

Let's let the children fish off the docks again.

Let's stop theidiocyof locking residents off of our wharf.

The wharf does not belong to people with boats that pay for moorage. The wharf belongs to us.

As for the assets on and from the foreshore lease, they belong to the BBCA.

Yes, a majority of BBCA members can vote to give up the foreshore lease and give up all assets (cash included), but I wonder where this is going when a few more than 200 residents need two associations to do the same thing:promotea better place to live for the residents.

When I saw the "Private Keep Off" sign go up at the foreshore 22 or 23 years ago, I got involved and we got the right for public access from Crown lands.

Woodfibre didn't want the liability and gave it up.

I guess I am involved again.

Let's get back to a people-friendly Britannia.
